Linko PizzaBar

Here at Inside Out Helsinki we are always up for pizza. We talked about the scrumptious pizzas on Uunisaari island . When the pizza is not only delicious, but uber original and in a laid-back, relaxed and original setting, what more could we ask for ?

Linko is fairly hidden pizzabar at the back of Helsinki's Töölö area. It started when two friends decided to open their own bar 6 years ago. They since then have also gotten a third member in the funky bunch, a chef, and decided to also make some food. They found the place and it happened to be an old pizzeria. That's how in June 2013  Linko Pizzabar started.

The place is tiny but very cozy with welcoming and friendly staff. The interior is decorated with objects from different eras and cultures and you can't get enough of finding new little things every time you visit the place. Besides their delicious food, Linko has a wide selection of drinks and talented bartenders who can mix a cocktail with ingredients you like - sweet or sour - you name it. In the evening, Linko hosts live music concerts, jazz jams and other events, so be sure to follow their facebook page for more information.

There are 6 to 7 pizzas, 2 salads and 1 dessert on their menu. At lunch they have 2 pizzas, 2 salads and a soup. Menu varies from time to time. There´s always one seasonal pizza and a good selection of vegetarian pizzas, one of them is always vegan.  As the chef puts it, come here with an open mind. Try their beetroot and goat cheese pizza. Or their spinach pizza with arugula, walnuts and asparagus.

This is definitely a place to visit and is on a good location if you are heading towards Cafe Regatta or Seurasaari (look out for our up coming posts on those places - we are taking over Töölö now!)

Roomage

One of the special specificities of Finland is both its love for design and for second hand things. Scandinavia in general is known for its tasteful low key design, and Finnish interior decor is no exception. Wandering Helsinki is also a marvel for any vintage lover! It's not a surprise, that this week's pick is Roomage, an awesome vintage interior store in Kamppi neighborhood.

The story starts in September 2013 when owner Kimmo Pohjapelto opened a webstore and small showroom in Kruununhaka. He'd been working before that in a tv production company but was slowly starting to dream about doing something different for himself. As he'd always been collecting vintage stuff from his travels and as his home was starting to fill up with his treasures, he decided to rent a small storage space which made him want to start collecting more things. At some point he realized he could try doing it for a living:
Basically I'm just hunting for cool new stuff all the time. I try to find something new every week of course, but I rarely know what a new week will bring for me! My vision is to keep the selection interesting and ecletic.
Entering Roomage is like a real treasure hunt. Everything is thoughtfully and tastefully arranged.

At InsideOut Helsinki we cherish having fun when decorating your interiors. or as Kimmo puts it :

Trust your instinct, go with gut feeling. Be playful.

The main inspiration for Roomage are the good old times. Original furniture from eras going from American or Danish 50s design to 80s inspiration, influenced by traveling but also books and popular culture, as well as underground culture.

The store also has a lot of cool industrial vintage things, which is quite unique here in Helsinki. As Kimmo explains:
There's a lot of [things] made to look old/fake industrial stuff (...) but for me it [should be] about authenticity.

Here at Inside Out Helsinki, we not only are in love with Kimmo's findings, but also appreciate Roomage's excellent customer service.

=> Good to know :  Roomage's main focus is its webstore, with custom-made deliveries and interaction with each client.
